WHY DO ORGANIZATIONS STRUGGLE?
Organizations are complex, interconnected systems. What impacts one part of the system impacts other parts of the system directly or indirectly. When this is not understood or managed, teams and individuals begin to work at cross-purposes, wasting valuable resources and undermining employee engagement and performance. In essence, the organization loses its rudder.
WHAT'S THE ANSWER?
Leaders must understand how to articulate and align their organization's "Why," "How" and "What." Organizational "Why" as defined by Simon Sinek (Start with Why) is an organization's core purpose, passion, values, DNA, while its "How" reflects how it plans to execute on its "Why." The organization's "How" for its customers shows up as its differentiated Value Proposition or Brand. The organization's "how" for its employees is its Culture or how people, processes and structures operate to execute on the Value Proposition. "What" the organization produces is captured in its products and services. Understanding and managing the symbiotic relationship between Why, How and What is leadership's primary role and critical to the organization's success.
